Roche Abbey

The Horse and the Abbey.

These ruins are all that's left of the new gothic style cistercian Roche abbey. Founded in 1147 its located near Maltby, South Yorkshire. 8.8 Miles away from Worksop. It sits alongside Maltby Beck and King's Wood.

In the 18th century Capability Brown was commissioned to landscape the area by a Lord Scarbrough. Interestingly, he knocked down several buildings and turfed the whole area leaving only two transepts left. Only until an excavation during the 1920s were parts unearthed. [source].

The ruins and surrounding area make great photographs with the woods and waterfall.
